LinuxForce Introduces New Services and Software for Host, Service, and Network Monitoring

Upper Darby, PA — 5 February 2008 — LinuxForce announced today that it has released a complete array of monitoring services and software to provide round the clock protection for businesses. The collection of software, consulting and other monitoring services is called "LinuxForce Monitoring℠".

Businesses that depend on reliable computing operations need a comprehensive monitoring solution to:

  • Provide timely notification at the office or on the go when a problem arises;
  • Provide a web-based summary to see at a glance the status of your systems, services, and networks;
  • Trace the origin of an issue so it can be rapidly corrected;
  • Provide precautions to prevent most false alarms.

Most LinuxForce products and services, including LinuxForce Monitoring℠, are built on Debian GNU/Linux and FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) technology. Since Debian and FOSS are part of Humanity's software endowment, LinuxForce is able to provide LinuxForce Monitoring℠ and other advanced technology solutions with a very low TCO (Total Cost of Ownership).

LinuxForce Monitoring℠ is principally built around the best of breed for monitoring solutions in the FOSS world: Nagios version 2 (Nagios2).

CJ Fearnley, President and CEO of LinuxForce, said, "LinuxForce has been providing host, service and network monitoring for our clients for more than a decade. We are proud to introduce this third generation re-engineering of our monitoring system because it so dramatically simplifies Nagios configuration. LinuxForce Monitoring℠ allows a broader range of businesses and Information Technology (IT) professionals to build more incisive FOSS-based monitoring solutions to cost-effectively protect their organizations."

Fearnley continued, "All of our Remote Responder℠ clients have been upgraded to the third generation of LinuxForce Monitoring℠ as part of our proactive systems improvement effort included with the service."

Some of the labor saving features in LinuxForce Monitoring℠ include:

  • 50- to 100-fold simplification in the configuration of Nagios2;
  • Over 150 plug-ins to monitor a plethora of services (from web sites, to PostgreSQL, MySQL, Asterisk, and even MythTV);
  • Improved configuration for most Nagios2 objects;
  • Automatic management of Nagios2 leaf nodes and aggregators (leaf nodes are recommended to reduce false alerts due to network outages).

Gene Riordan, LinuxForce's Director of Business Development, said "LinuxForce offers professional services to its business and IT customers to customize our unique monitoring solutions to meet their special case needs."
