Corel Acquires Ownership Stake In Professional Service Group, LinuxForce Inc.

Strategic investment gives Corel stellar support capability for its Linux® offerings

Ottawa, Canada— December 22, 1999— Corel Corporation (NASDAQ: CORL, TSE: COR) today announced that it has acquired an ownership stake in LinuxForce Inc., of Philadelphia. Corel has acquired one third of LinuxForce, with a three-year option to increase the ownership position to two-thirds.

LinuxForce is a company organized to deliver a full-range of technical services and support for Linux. This strategic investment will allow Corel to deliver end-to-end Linux® solutions by combining Corel's Linux product lines with a comprehensive technical and professional services portfolio.

Corel recently released its Corel® LINUX® OS desktop operating system and in just three weeks, more than 100,000 downloads were made from CNET's download.com site, where it remains the most popular Linux download. The shrinkwrap versions of Corel LINUX OS will be on store shelves this week. Corel is also currently developing office and graphics suites for Linux. Corel® WordPerfect® 8 for Linux(r) has been hugely successful as a download, and Corel's WordPerfect Office for Linux suite will be available in early 2000. The CorelDRAW® graphics suite for Linux will be available in the summer of 2000.

"LinuxForce is a Linux services company that specializes in supporting the Debian Linux distribution and since Corel LINUX OS is also Debian-based, Corel and LinuxForce is a powerful one-two Linux punch.," said Dr. Michael Cowpland, president and chief executive officer of Corel Corporation. "Teaming up with LinuxForce means that we will be able to easily offer professional services for Linux to assist our customers in the deployment and integration of our Linux software."

Corel LINUX OS was also recently named CNET's "Editor's Choice" as the best of seven major Linux distributions with the highest score of nine out of 10. CNET's editors identified Corel LINUX OS as "your best option if you want to run Linux as a workstation."

LinuxForce currently provides a full-range of service and support options for the growing number of businesses that are switching to the Linux system for critical areas of operations that require robust, stable characteristics.

"This partnership is a tremendous opportunity for LinuxForce because it will allow us to work with a company that is developing major advancements for Linux ," said Charles B. Fleming, president and chief executive officer of LinuxForce Inc. "Our goal with Corel is to provide enterprises with a Linux experience that is more dependable, less-costly and maintainable at quality levels not possible with other operating systems that have been the norm until now."
